On this page, I want to highlight my more static projects, like my illustrations and design projects.

Illustration

On this page, I have a few pieces I’m quite proud of. Many of my illustrations have a fantastical base, as I think the imagination is so much better than reality.

Character Design

As an animator, character design is a crucial step in creation. From shape studies, to turnarounds, to final works, character design is probably one of my favorite things to do in art. I love making up little stories and little character that fit into new worlds of my own making.

Turnarounds:

Drawing a 360 view of a character is essential for animation, and its really fun! I sometimes like to make turnarounds for characters even if I don’t plan on animating them. It makes it easier to draw them later in all sorts of angles.

Reference Sheets:

If I just want a quick reference of a character, sometimes I’ll just make a reference sheet, with a bit of personality and the props to work with, I can also just use these as a space to start.

It’s also really fun to add little doodles of the characters to get a gauge of their personalities. I also like writing their names in what I imagine their handwriting to be. A lot of personality can come through in hand writing!

A few years ago, I designed a series of whale sharks based off of interesting drinks I’ve heard of throughout the years. I’ve always been interested in whale sharks, ever since I had a presentation on them in 5th grade.

My first project on these cute creatures had them simply floating on the page. Here, I decided to give them their own habitats in the drinks of their name sakes.

Designing comics is kind of like storyboarding in animation. Without the worry of “how to make this move” it’s a simple joy to make little stories with little boxes. There’s so much you can do in making comics, from fun panel shapes, to expressive speech bubbles, to beautiful illustrations, comic are so fun to make!

Comic Confections: Restaurant Design

Comic confections is a fictional comic book bakery that was inspired by various comic books and graphic novels.

In this fictional restaurant, customers can sit down in a vibrantly themed location, and read comic books as they dine. All of the books are provided by the bakery (but they aren’t first editions, don’t worry)

I designed a few variations of the logo, so that the colors are strong against any background. Funnily enough, making the main colors just CMYK was unintentional. I just like the combination a lot.

In in addition to this logo, I designed a menu and a to-go box. I had a lot of fun making assets for everything! I love drawing fun shapes, and visual gags, and tasty treats. My personal favorite is the chef hat/ mushroom cloud.
